Right now saving money is crucial if we are to even survive this age of greedflation. So below are ideas on how you can save money in a less “capitalistic” way.
- YouTube has a video on how to do just about anything. Use tutorials to fix broken items.
- Go to yard/garage sales and thrift stores in wealthy areas.
- Make use of your local library for books, CDs, DVDs and audio books.
- Always check the price per unit (ounce/gram/kilogram). Something might be a lower price but it could be a smaller volume with a higher unit cost.
- Buy spices from ethnic grocery stores or from the ethnic food aisle. Typically half the cost.
- If you can’t afford to buy in bulk, find people to buy with you and then divide the products so you can get the cheaper unit cost but not have to pay so much upfront.
- Create a menu for the week and make a list for groceries. Stick with the list.
- Freeze the trimmings from vegetables, bones from roasts, herb stems, anything you would normally compost. When you have a good sized amount, add it to a large pot, cover with water and simmer for several hours. Makes the best broth and you can easily freeze it for later use.
