Below are ways that we can help our local economies make it through the coming years.

Universal School Meals

Providing all students school breakfasts and lunches has multiple community benefits.

• Good nutrition makes learning easier for students and improves grades without increasing class time or staff.
• Improves nutrition and reduces/slows obesity.
• Reduces administrative burden because they don’t have to deal with who gets free meals.
• Reduces family financial burden.
• Providing all students lunch can reduce bullying because it doesn’t highlight those who cannot afford lunch.
• Reduces grocery store prices since demand goes down.

Change Where You Keep Your Money

Move your money out of banks and into credit unions. Banks focus on making profits for shareholders while credit unions are nonprofit and owned by members.

Mutual Aid Networks

Join your local networks and if there isn’t one, start one. We’re going to need to work together with our neighbors to get through the next few years at minimum.

Bulk Buying Group

Eliminate the middle man while saving money and taking control of your food. Join one or create one if you don’t have one in your area.

Buy Nothing Groups

Join Buy Nothing and/or Free share groups. When you need something, it will appear for you. Also a great way to get rid or the scarcity mindset that capitalism creates.

If You Do Have to Buy

Shop local. Keep your money in your community. For every dollar you spend in your local community, 67 cents of it recirculates in your community versus only 43 cents if you shop at a national chain. Shopping local revitalizes cities, reduces environmental impacts, supports community groups, creates more local jobs and provide better service.

Join the Library

Librarians are revolutionaries and your library can provide you with the knowledge you need for free.

Do Not Support Big Corporate

Not just boycott, which means you intend to go back. Cancel your Prime membership with Amazon. Find alternatives to Walmart, Kroger, etc. If you do have to shop these stores due to lack of options, focus on only the necessities such as food, which has the lowest profit margin, but don’t buy their brand, which has a higher profit margin. Delete your Meta and X accounts. Meta allows you to download all of your content before you delete, so you don’t lose it. Switch to other social media for the connection.
